On Tuesday, June 24, the Fondation Nexans Board of Directors, gathered for a General Assembly, selected the organizations that will receive support through its 13th Call for Projects. The focus this year: electrification, education, and environmental sustainability. Discover the 10 awarded projects.

South America: Lighting Up Vulnerable Communities

In Brazil, the Fondation Nexans continues its partnership with the NGO Litro de Luz. Once again this year, they will co-develop solar lighting solutions using upcycled materials like plastic bottles. The project will be deployed in Pavuna, in the north of Rio de Janeiro. Additionally, the community will benefit from Litro de Luz's social development methodology, training residents to build, replicate, and maintain the technology independently.

Also in South America, the Fondation is renewing its collaboration with TECHO.

In Peru, the Luz al Barrio initiative continues, bringing solar streetlights to five new neighborhoods in Lima to improve safety and reduce risks from unsafe electrical connections.

In Colombia, Energia Que Une will deploy solar streetlights in urban areas like Medellin, Cali, Bogotá, and Soacha. Community participation is central to the success of the project, with local input determining the most impactful installation sites. The program also includes energy education sessions.

Sub-Saharan Africa: Powering Growth and Sustainability

In Benin, the Fondation supports GERES and its 3R initiative (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle), which addresses the growing solar waste challenge. The project aims to develop skills and job opportunities in solar waste management, promoting both economic growth and environmental preservation.

In Senegal, Le Partenariat will implement a solar energy platform in Lougré Thioly village. Equipped with solar panels, batteries, and a monitoring system, the platform will enable a sustainable local economy and energy autonomy for local entrepreneurs.

In Côte d’Ivoire, Association 3535 will establish an Agricare Center for Women Farmers in N’Douci. This innovative center will include solar-powered cold storage, dry storage, a solar dryer, and composting facilities, improving crop preservation, market access, and income for vulnerable women.

In Ghana, KITE will launch the SMILE project (Sustainable Micro-Infrastructure for Livelihood Enhancement), which installs solar-powered grinding systems in the Volta region to boost agricultural productivity and food security.

MENA Region: Skills Training and Renewable Energy

In Morocco, Cluster ENR leads an ambitious project in Midelt to train locals in renewable energy, support green startups, and implement solutions like solar water pumping and off-grid lighting. By involving public authorities and economic actors, the project fosters sustainable entrepreneurship and improves daily life.

In Lebanon, IECD is launching Unleap Academy in southern regions to support reconstruction and bridge technical skill gaps through professional training. Courses will cover energy audits, solar system design, panel assembly, maintenance, and automation programming—promoting gender inclusivity and local expertise.

Asia: Clean Energy and Ecosystem Preservation

For the first time in five years, the Fondation is returning to Asia to support Mékong, enfants des rizières in Laos. The initiative aims to deliver clean energy, water, and hygiene to over 300 families while promoting waste valorization. Activities include installing solar panels, training in renewable energy, and supporting sustainable agriculture like rice-fish farming and aquaponics.
