Litro de Luz
There are 800 million people without access to electricity in the world, 2 million in Brazil (mostly in the Amazon rainforest), and 6 million Brazilians have no access to public lighting.
Litro de Luz aims to provide sustainable lighting to alleviate energy-poverty in low income households, applying solar technology, simple materials, and a certified social methodology that focuses on community empowerment.
The mission of Litro de Luz is to improve people's quality of life through sustainable lighting solutions, and to empower transformational agents.
The NGO has been operating in Brazil since 2014, and also comes from an international movement "Liter of Light", present in more than 15 countries since 2011. Therefore, Litro de has been accumulating knowledge about communities, the technology, and the organization for some years now.
In Brazil, Litro de Luz has installed more than 3,300 solar solutions, benefiting directly around 23,000 people in more than 126 communities (riverine, quilombola, rural, urban and indigenous). Litro de Luz has more than 250 volunteers, teams present in 6 Brazilian cities and installations carried out across the 5 regions of Brazil.
