A decade of impact for youth and sustainable development in Lebanon
Sep 27, 2023Liban Cables is proud to celebrate the 10th anniversary of la Fondation Nexans in Lebanon. Over the past decade, the Foundation has been instrumental in empowering young people facing challenges in education and professional integration. This milestone coincides with a special event in partnership with the NGO Institute for Education and Development (IECD) and Semeurs d’avenir, marking a remarkable chapter in our commitment to making a difference.
Celebrating a decade of impact: a look back at the landmark event
To celebrate a decade of impact and in alignment with our ongoing partnership with the IECD, Nexans Liban Cables took part in a special event on Tuesday, September 19th. This occasion coincided with the inauguration of the IECD Lebanon's renovated training facilities. The significance of this event extended beyond marking the Foundation's 10th anniversary. Distinguished speakers, including Nabil Khlat (Liban Cables CEO), shared their valuable insights during the event.
“ La Fondation Nexans has been the catalyst for many of the remarkable initiatives we have undertaken, making us pioneers in various fields such as training, solar energy and education. One of our proudest achievements in Lebanon is the establishment of the Solar Academy. We understood that renewable energy was the future and, through this academy, we have trained more than 100 technicians from all over Lebanon with the IECD. These dedicated professionals are now equipped to ensure that solar installations in Lebanon adhere to global standards, contributing not only to a sustainable environment but also to the growth of the sustainable economy. ”

Liban Cables CEOA commitment to education and professional integration
In Lebanon, la Fondation Nexans has been a steadfast supporter of the Institute for Education and Development, working tirelessly to foster education and professional integration among young individuals facing difficulties. The Institut Européen de Coopération et de Développement (IECD) has been promoting human and economic development in various countries through education, training and improving access to youth employment and entrepreneurship since 1988. It is active in sub-Saharan Africa, the Indian Ocean, the Middle East, North Africa, and Southeast Asia.
La Fondation Nexans and the IECD partnered up in 2014 and have trained some 1,360 young people in Morocco, Lebanon, and Côte d’Ivoire in electrical engineering and electromechanics to date. Since 2017, they have supported 21 training centers and trained approximately 110 trainers each year. Our joint efforts have led to the establishment of a dedicated academy for training in solar panel installation, providing valuable skills and career opportunities to the youth.
Empowering graduates for a brighter future
The 57 graduates, trained by IECD and Semeurs d'Avenir, have successfully completed their training in various technical fields, including plumbing, electricity, HVAC and solar panel installation. These valuable skills will enable them to seamlessly integrate into the job market, contributing to their communities' development and well-being.
La Fondation Nexans continues its active efforts on the ground, striving for a positive and lasting impact on global communities. As we mark our 10 years of commitment, the next event will be held in Chile. Stay tuned to follow our celebrations.
