Emergency aid in Mozambique by Nexans Foundation
May 13, 2019
Starting on the evening of March 14, Cyclone Idai made landfall in Beira, Mozambique, a coastal city of half a million people. The fierce storm hit Mozambique, Malawi, and Zimbabwe with strong winds and rains.
Committed to energy access for all, the Nexans Foundation which usually supports initiatives that help bring electrical power to disadvantaged communities decided to contribute in a meaningful way.
Nexans along with 10 other electricity industry leaders donated funds to the crisis center of the French Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs and “Electriciens sans frontières “, which was then able to send 20m³ of equipment by air like generators, individual solar lamps, projectors, cables to help the most vulnerable people.
Thanks to the funds received, “Electriciens sans frontières “distributed, in collaboration with UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, more than 100 sun lamps in the Beira area. The installation of light points at latrines and water points helped ensure safety and security in the camps for our emergency team and the installation of a submersible pump provided access to drinking water for all displaced people living in the camp.
The Foundation is always happy and proud to contribute in the ways it can for humanitarian crisis struck areas.
