Enhancing education through sustainable electrification
Mar 14, 2024At Fondation Nexans, we're driven by a commitment to sustainable development and empowering communities. Partnering with Electriciens sans Frontières (Electricians Without Borders), we're thrilled to announce the successful completion of the Lycée Saint Charles Lwanga electrification project in Senegal. This initiative marks a significant milestone in our ongoing efforts to improve educational infrastructure and opportunities.
Building upon past initiatives like the 2016 Ziguinchor Technical and Vocational Centre electrification(CTPZ) , this project underscores our dedication to fostering sustainable development in Senegal. Lycée Saint Charles Lwanga wasn't just about reliable electricity; it aimed to create valuable learning experiences.
The project became a dynamic platform for knowledge exchange. Students from nearby CTPZ and Lycée La Mache in Lyon participated in a worksite-school, gaining practical experience under the guidance of energy sector professionals. This collaboration not only improved infrastructure but also nurtured future Senegalese and French professionals.
A total of 41 students benefited from technical internships, equipping them with valuable skills and expertise. These participants received certificates acknowledging their technical proficiency, empowering them for careers in the energy sector and contributing to their communities' development.
The project's impact extends far beyond technical enhancements. Today, 600 students and 40 staff enjoy safe and reliable electrical systems, fostering an optimal learning environment. By ensuring access to electricity, we enhance educational opportunities and promote safety and well-being within the school community.
This successful project reaffirms our commitment to sustainable development and community empowerment. Fondation Nexans remains dedicated to supporting initiatives that create lasting positive change, driving progress and prosperity for generations to come. Together with Electriciens sans Frontières and our partners, we look forward to a brighter, more sustainable future for all.
