Nexans Brazil volunteers illuminate Quilombola community with solar lights
May 26, 2023In a remarkable display of unity and compassion, employees at Nexans Brazil embarked on a transformative initiative to bring light and hope to the Quilombola community in Bongaba, Brazil. United by their shared commitment to making a positive impact, these volunteers joined forces with Litro de Luz, a non-governmental organization (NGO) supported by the Fondation Nexans.
To ensure the success of the electrification project, Nexans Brazil hosted Litro de Luz for a workshop on April 16. This collaborative session allowed volunteers to learn how to construct the solar solutions that would bring light to the families in need. Filled with enthusiasm and, motivation, they formed groups and, under the guidance of NGO facilitators, followed the accessible and practical manuals, designed with images to cater to all community members, including those who are not literate.
As a result, on April 29, a total of 30 solar-powered poles were installed, illuminating the streets and positively impacting approximately 460 residents from 115 families within the Quilombola community. The installation of these solar solutions not only brought light but also enhanced safety and comfort for the residents, making it a truly rewarding experience for all involved. The active involvement and support from the community members have further strengthened the project's impact.
The partnership between the Fondation Nexans, Litro de Luz, and Nexans Brazil's volunteers has exemplified the power of collective action in creating positive change. By illuminating the Quilombola community in Bongaba, Brazil, the project has not only brightened the streets but also the lives of the residents. It serves as an inspiring example of how individuals and organizations can come together to make a significant impact, uplifting communities and fostering a brighter future for all.
